About Martyn

I am a Risk Consultant with experience across a wide range of industries. A Mechanical Engineering graduate, I have over thirty years’ experience working with organizations to understand the hazards associated with their activities and to develop strategies to manage the associated risks. My consultancy experience has ranged from front-line detailed risk assessment of high-hazard events to strategic support in developing and reviewing the systems necessary to manage catastrophic risk across an enterprise. I am particularly experienced in developing innovative and effective safety cases for a wide range of hazardous installations. I have worked across a range of industry sectors, including Mining, Oil & Gas, Manufacturing, Energy Transition and Chemicals.

Key Projects

Unilever – Facilitating hazard  identification workshops and consequence modelling

Progressive Energy/Unilever – HYNET. Managed risk studies associated with the deployment of hydrogen to replace natural gas in boilers. Managing a program of  process safety studies for a wide range of hazardous  installations, including ammonia refrigeration, sulphuration and LPG handling. This work has involved  developing risk tolerability criteria, reviewing HAZOP & SIL studies, QRA and  scenario-based risk assessments.

AkzoNobel – Process safety competency benchmarking exercise involving interviewing process safety leaders in peer companies.

Schlumberger – Providing technical leadership to a team developing a Process Safety and Integrity Management System for a new division of Schlumberger.

European Commission – High level risk assessment study of CO2 pipelines under various Carbon Capture & Storage deployment scenarios
